I am an artist and art teacher based in North Wales and Shropshire. I have a love for hand-made objects which carry stories and personality. I am constantly exploring different materials, styles and scales in my work. Everything I create is a little weird or unique, so coming to the studio is a bit like looking into a cabinet of curiosities. I use painting, sculpture and textiles, sometimes combining all three. When I opened my little studio space in North Wales, Lulu's Cabinet was born.
My earlier career in puppet making started after completing the Technical Effects for the Performing Arts degree at London College of Fashion. As a child I was obsessed with the Jim Henson film Labyrinth, and the monster thing has never left me. I went on to create in film and theatre, including Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. I have also completed a masters degree in Design Practice and have over 10 years experience teaching Art and Art workshops in schools.
After a short bout of illness I realised, even more so, the importance of creating for wellbeing and taking time out to make. I wanted to create a positive space where I could create my own art and welcome others to do so.
I just want people to come in to my studio and feel like they are safe and happy and when they leave they will take a little part of me with them and maybe even leave a little bit of themselves.
I have been creating puppets, sculptures, paintings, embroideries, drawings and mixed-media. The name Lulu's Cabinet was devised because I love unusual things that you may find in a cabinet of curiosities and my gallery of work has become my very own cabinet of creations.
